Just the facts: Unpacking Evidence-Based Investing (EBI)

For our last In the Room of 2021, host Stephen Backhouse sat down with Coreshares’ MD, Gareth Stobie, and Head: Product and Client Solutions, Chris Rule, to look at how adopting EBI principles can help you meet your client’s investment goals.

The webinar was broadcasted live from CoreShares’ offices in Sandton and we learnt a bit about Gareth’s involvement in The Rhino Peak Challenge.

About the webinar

The role of the financial adviser has changed dramatically in recent years due to the proliferation of investment products and downward pressure on fees. Advisers who can minimise overall fees and deliver on the long-term goals of the client set themselves apart. Using evidence-based investing (EBI) principles can provide a key support in these endeavours.

Quite simply, evidence-based investing removes the guesswork from trying to make short-term predictions about markets and individual companies and, instead, focuses on long-term observations of markets. Investment decisions are underpinned by facts and empirical evidence.

This conscious decision to dial down the noise allows advisers to focus on their most critical role, namely, encouraging investors to stay the course and remain invested, so that they remain aligned to their long-term financial goals.

Topics covered include:

  • What is evidence-based investing
  • Strategic asset allocation
  • Controlling the controllables
  • Bringing more predictability to long-term financial planning
