Just the facts: Unpacking Evidence-Based Investing (EBI)
Join us this October for our second last In the Room of the year. Host Stephen Backhouse returns with Coreshares’ MD, Gareth Stobie, and Head: Product and Client Solutions, Chris Rule, to look at how adopting EBI principles can help you meet your client’s investment goals.
We will be broadcasting live from CoreShares’ offices and learn a bit about Gareth’s involvement in The Rhino Peak Challenge.
About the webinar
The role of the financial adviser has changed dramatically in recent years due to the proliferation of investment products and downward pressure on fees. Advisers who can minimise overall fees and deliver on the long-term goals of the client set themselves apart. Using evidence-based investing (EBI) principles can provide a key support in these endeavours.
Quite simply, evidence-based investing removes the guesswork from trying to make short-term predictions about markets and individual companies and, instead, focuses on long-term observations of markets. Investment decisions are underpinned by facts and empirical evidence.
This conscious decision to dial down the noise allows advisers to focus on their most critical role, namely, encouraging investors to stay the course and remain invested, so that they remain aligned to their long-term financial goals.
Topics covered include:
- What is evidence-based investing
- Strategic asset allocation
- Controlling the controllables
- Bringing more predictability to long-term financial planning
CoreShares is one of Africa’s leading passive investment management businesses. We specialise in index-tracking investment solutions across Exchange Traded Funds (ETFs), Unit Trusts and segregated mandates (for institutions).
CoreShares is a fully-fledged medium sized investment manager with over R10billion under management. Thanks to our strong corporate backing we have been able to invest in dynamic people and best in class systems to deliver strong financial products and outcomes.
At CoreShares we are striving to perfect a passive investment approach which is derived from studying all the evidence available and interpreting our learnings scientifically into strategies we feel certain will yield the best and most reliable returns for our clients and their clients in turn.
We understand better than others that it is not about rands and cents alone but something far more important: that priceless sense of freedom. That in the future you should be free from worry. To do the things you’ve longed to do. To be independent. To be generous.
Providing investors with this sense of freedom is at the heart of what we do at CoreShares, and our team shares this common purpose.
Gareth is the managing director of CoreShares – a leading South African passive investment management business, and has led the business from inception.
Gareth’s financial services experience has been built entirely within a niche or specialist firm environment. Accordingly, he has developed a broad and deep understanding of the business mechanics of both investment banking and asset management.
The bulk of Gareth’s career has been spent at Grindrod Financial Services where, for over a decade, he was involved in a number of successful projects and initiatives. The Coreshares business was a result of one such initiative. Over the last 6 years Gareth has dedicated his time to the growth of CoreShares and the passive investment market in South Africa more generally. He is a respected thought leader in the area of index investing (in particular) and participates regularly in public forums – conferences, radio and television.
Gareth has an MBA from Wits Business School and has over 18 years’ financial services experience across structured finance, investment management and banking.
Head: Product & Client Solutions
Prior to CoreShares, Chris spent time at Grindrod Bank where he was primarily involved in balance sheet projects and fund management.
He was instrumental in the development and growth of Grindrod Bank’s ETF business (the precursor to CoreShares) and is currently responsible for product development, research and all capital markets activities.
He has over 10 years’ financial services experience across investment management and investment banking. Chris holds a B.Comm.Hons (Financial Analysis), and is a CFA charterholder.
