Dr Gizelle Willows is a Professor at the University of Cape Town and Managing Director of Nudging Financial Behaviour. Under the mentorship of Professor Terrance Odean, she was a visiting scholar at the Haas School of Business at the University of California (Berkeley). Her expertise lies in behavioural finance, particularly as it relates to personal finance and retirement savings. She is the recipient of multiple best paper awards and leader of the Behavioural Finance and Accounting international research group. Her behavioural and personal finance insights are in high demand as attested by invitations to give key note addresses, be an expert guest on international podcasts, and her widely-read blog, Nudging Financial Behaviour.

Louis van der Merwe

Louis the co-founder and director of
WealthUp, a boutique financial planning firm situated in Cape Town, South Africa. He is a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER® as well as a CERTIFIEDFINANCIAL TRANSITIONIST®, balancing the technical and the personal side of financial planning. Louis also holds a Financial Abuse Specialist™designation.

He completed his B.Comm degree as well as the Post Graduate Diploma in Financial Planning at the University of Stellenbosch. Further to this he finished his Advanced Post Graduate Diploma in Financial Planning at the University of Free State, specialising in investment management, and hasspent the last 13 years providing advice to individuals and companies.
Louis has a passion for technology and entrepreneurship and is the host of the Financial Planners South Africa Podcast on behalf of XY Adviser.

He has led a broad range of programs analyzing the impact of digital transformation across industries, countries, and corporate activities, including supply chains, customer experience, operations, strategy, sales and marketing, cybersecurity, and data privacy.

Prior to founding ThoughtLab, Lou was board director and president of Oxford Economics, where he built the firm’s successful business in the Americas and set up its global thought leadership practice. Before joining Oxford Economics, Lou was president of Llesiant, a business technology start-up acquired by Bloomberg BNA in 2009.
