Can you share a bit about your journey at INN8? How did you start, and what has been the most exciting part of your experience so far?
I began my career with the STANLIB LISP platform many years ago. After a decade at Allan Gray, I returned to STANLIB to assist in launching the INN8 Platform.
What does a typical day look like for you as a Business Development Manager at INN8? Any interesting or challenging moments that stand out?
Introducing the platform to new advisers is a significant part of my day. It involves helping them, and their assistants, transition from traditional application forms to a fully digital platform, which can be a gradual process.
In your role, what are the key skills or insights you’ve gained that have been crucial for success in business development at INN8?
Maintaining a positive attitude and providing excellent service are essential to success.
Could you share a project or client interaction that you found particularly rewarding or memorable? What made it stand out?
One memorable experience was presenting to a group of new advisers and witnessing their excitement and enthusiasm. It was incredibly rewarding.
Building relationships with clients is a crucial aspect of business development. Can you share a story about a client interaction that taught you something valuable or left a lasting impression?
Providing excellent service, managing expectations (don’t over-promise and under-deliver), and maintaining prompt communication are key. Ensuring clients are well-informed and receiving regular updates builds trust.
Every role comes with its challenges. What’s a challenge you’ve faced as a BDM, and how did you overcome it? Any lessons learned?
Effective communication is vital. There are times when I might not be able to fulfill an adviser’s request. Being honest and setting realistic expectations are crucial. Sometimes as a SIC you are faced with something you may not be able to carry through to the adviser. You have to be honest and upfront to keep the advisers expectations real.
In your time at INN8, how have you personally grown, either professionally or personally? Are there any experiences that have shaped you?
Working with a supportive team has been instrumental in my growth. We leverage each other’s strengths to positively impact the team.
If you could go back and give advice to yourself when you started as a BDM at INN8, what would it be? What advice do you have for someone aspiring to join the INN8 family?
INN8 is like a family. We work hard together towards common goals. My advice is to stay honest and passionate about your work.
