Building an ethical culture in a changing financial advisory world

Building an ethical culture is key to good corporate governance – but while ethics is a word that we’re all familiar with, many of us aren’t too familiar with the steps needed to evaluate and construct an effective ethical culture in our workplace.

To share the insights that you need to build an ethics strategy – and then to manage and report on that strategy – we invited Dr. Paul Vorster to join host Georgina Smith in conversation.

With an introduction focusing on the why, the discussion then covered the building blocks of an ethical culture and what it takes to establish your ethical vision.

About the webinar

Ethics has become a buzzword however many do not know how to evaluate and construct an ethical culture. Principle 3 in the King IV report on Good Corporate Governance indicates that it is the responsibility of the governing body to ensure that the organisation builds an ethical culture. This includes effective ethics management in the organisation as well as the development of an ethics strategy and management plan which outlines the ethics vision of the organisation. Additionally, organisations should report on ethics risks and mitigation interventions as well as ensure that ethics risks are prioritised in the organisational risk register. The stakeholder approach to ethics is thus the foundation of ensuring an organisation does what is good not only for itself, but also for its internal and external stakeholders.

In this session we will look more closely at:

  1. Why an ethical culture is important for high performance in organisation
  2. What are the building blocks (indicators) of an ethical or unethical culture
  3. How to evaluate culture and building an ethics vision
