About the webinar

Increasingly, we are seeing asset management business become signatories of UNPRI and hence, integrate ESG analysis in their investment processes. This uptake in Responsible Investing (RI) is driven by shift from global leaders and regulators to drive capital towards more sustainable investment projects. Thus, propelling RI as a multi-decade, megatrend that continues to reshape the investment landscape.

There is growing consensus of decarbonizing economic growth for more sustainable future. This trend is accelerated by the young generation of inheritors of world’s wealth, who think differently about their investment decisions. They understand their investment portfolios can be an expression of their social, environmental, and political views.

But can asset managers play a meaningful role in solving some of these societal sustainability matters? Is the world asking too much from the capital allocators?

In this session we will look more closely at:

  1. Understanding Responsible Investing trend and what is driving the investment theme
  2. Understand role that asset managers are playing to drive sustainable future, through initiatives like stewardship
  3. Why does RI matter
  4. How are asset managers integrating ESG in their investment processes
  5. Benefit of analysing company with additional ESG lens
  6. Assist Financial Planners evaluate varying ESG offerings

I am passionate about sustainable development in general and about developing pragmatic and impactful strategies for Africa’s just transition to a low carbon economy in response to the climate emergency.

As a Development Economist, I have dedicated my career to the provision of strategic advisory services in the development space. I have worked with local and international clients across the public and private sector on the design and implementation of strategies aimed at achieving large-scale developmental impact. My work includes a special focus on the identification of innovative finance mechanisms for generating financial return and impact, specifically with reference to integration of environmental, social and governance (ESG) factors into investment processes i.e. responsible investment.

As Head of Africa & Middle East for the UN-supported Principles for Responsible Investment (PRI), my focus for the last four years has been on identifying and addressing the needs of African investors with respect to integrating ESG into investment processes in an effort to foster the maximisation of long-term sustainable financial returns across the continent. I have specialised in the initiation and management of key stakeholder relationships and partnerships across the region, including those with investors as well as with policymakers and regulators, academic institutions and mission driven organisations.

My work has included the design and roll-out of initiatives to build capacity amongst investors and other organisations on ESG integration and responsible investment approaches – specifically, developing content for and then facilitating workshops, webinars and online learning tools.

Recently, in my independent capacity, I carried out research on climate integration strategies of South African asset managers, and contributed to the TIPS Just Transition Finance Roadmap.
